03Personality

Rohan loves manga, dislikes socializing and approaches his work with painstaking care. Willful, self-centered and strongly opinionated, he would rather suffer a loss than yield to someone else. He has been tormented by a lack of vivid experiences to use as material and constantly fears that readers will stop wanting his work, yet he can endure hardship for the sake of creating. He treats people he likes with respect: he repeatedly seeks Koichi Hirose's help, respects Joseph and Jotaro, and works to identify Yoshikage Kira for the sake of his deceased childhood neighbor Reimi Sugimoto. His relationship with Josuke Higashikata is much more antagonistic; the two can barely stand each other.
04Daily life
Rohan's successful manga Pink Dark Boy has European and Taiwanese editions. There is no American edition because he believes American readers are too insensitive to understand it. In 1999, he lives in a Western-style house in Morioh with seven rooms, a living room and an attic on a 103-tsubo property, approximately 340 square meters. One of Morioh's unusual sights, the house has visitors whom Rohan puts to work as if they were servants. His distraction during a gambling match with Josuke leads to a fire and seven million yen in damage, including designer furniture worth 2.5 million yen. Architect Masazo Kinoto later quotes twenty million yen for restoration work. Rohan subsequently has the house restored.
05Stand abilities
Rohan's Stand, Heaven's Door, is named after Knockin' on Heaven's Door, covered by Guns N' Roses and originally performed by Bob Dylan. Its parameters are Destructive Power D, Speed B, Range B, Precision C, Persistence B and Development Potential A. It can turn a person's body into a book, allowing Rohan to read their experiences and memories and write commands into them. Commands do not necessarily fail because they exceed the subject's ordinary abilities; one familiar instruction prevents a subject from attacking Rohan. Primarily a reconnaissance and information-gathering Stand, it has almost no direct offensive role. It throws a few ineffective punches when faced with Kira's third bomb. Initially it has no separate physical form, later adopting the appearance of Pink Dark Boy's protagonist. In the anime, its ability initially resides in Rohan's manga and requires the target to see an original manuscript. After his encounter with Reimi, drawing its image in the air is enough. In the spin-off, it develops further and can affect ghosts and supernatural creatures, as well as Rohan himself and objects.
06Story
Story spoilers
Rohan was born in Morioh in 1979. On August 13, 1983, aged four, he stays overnight at his neighbor Reimi Sugimoto's home while his parents are away. That night, Yoshikage Kira attacks the household, but Reimi helps Rohan escape through a window. His family subsequently moves to Tokyo. He makes his professional manga debut at 16 and gains recognition in 1995 with Pink Dark Boy.
In February 1999, Rohan moves back to Morioh. During this period, the Nijimura brothers shoot him with the Arrow, awakening his Stand. In May, Koichi Hirose and Toshikazu Hazamada visit his home. Rohan uses his Stand to read Koichi's experiences and learn about Jotaro, Josuke and their Stands. Josuke discovers that Koichi is under attack and comes to help; Rohan attempts to use Heaven's Door on him while repeatedly mocking his hair. After recovering, Rohan explores Morioh with Koichi and enters the ghost alley. There he meets Reimi, learns that a murderer has been killing people in Morioh for 15 years, and promises to find the killer and bring him to justice.
During his investigation, Rohan is challenged by Ken Oyanagi, the rock-paper-scissors boy, and almost loses Heaven's Door, but his determination allows him to defeat Ken. Several days later, Josuke uses the self-proclaimed alien Mikitaka Hazekura to cheat at gambling and wins 2.06 million yen from Rohan. Refusing to accept defeat, Rohan injures his own finger and insists he will uncover Josuke's trick. The game indirectly causes the fire at his home and seven million yen in damage, further worsening their relationship.
The next day, Rohan encounters Josuke on a bus. After an argument sends them their separate ways, Rohan investigates a tunnel and falls victim to Yuya Fungami's Highway Star, which drains his nutrients. Josuke rides Rohan's motorcycle to find and defeat the user, saving Rohan. Rohan nevertheless complains bitterly that Josuke's failure to heed his warning created further trouble, and their relationship remains hostile. Later, while arranging work on his house, Rohan becomes possessed by Masazo Kinoto's Cheap Trick. After a prolonged contest of wits, Koichi helps him reach the ghost alley, where he tricks Cheap Trick into looking back and being taken away by the ghosts.
Before the final battle, Rohan finds Hayato Kawajiri and reads his memories, discovering Kira's assumed identity. Killer Queen's third bomb, Bites the Dust, kills him and then kills him repeatedly at the same time, 8:30 a.m., in successive loops without his awareness. Hayato's persistent efforts eventually reveal how to break the ability and spare Rohan's life. Late in Part 6, Rohan is mentioned as the only manga artist still meeting his deadlines during the priest's acceleration of time.
