Mikitaka's name echoes the historical diplomat Hasekura Tsunenaga. Earth Wind and Fire takes its name from the American band. His central mystery is more important than a definitive label: the story offers evidence that can be read in different ways and never settles his extraterrestrial claim.

04Appearance and personality

He has long, light-colored hair and a distinctive school uniform. Calm, kind and eager to repay favors, he nevertheless behaves as though everyday human customs are unfamiliar. His literal responses and apparent innocence often leave Josuke and Okuyasu unsure whether he is serious.

Mikitaka says that he came to Earth to investigate a possible new home. A woman claiming to be his mother instead describes a boy who has already caused trouble by telling people he is an alien. Mikitaka counters that he hypnotized her. Neither explanation is confirmed for the reader.

05Earth Wind and Fire

Mikitaka can reshape part or all of his body into objects such as shoes, dice, binoculars and a cable. The power is usually discussed alongside Stands, but whether it is a Stand or an alien ability remains uncertain. It does not manifest as a separate humanoid fighting partner.

His transformations have limits. He cannot reproduce overly complicated mechanisms or turn into something stronger than himself, and he cannot convincingly imitate other people's faces. The power is useful for movement, concealment and assistance rather than an unrestricted way to create any machine or weapon.

Sirens cause him severe distress and a skin reaction. Being repeatedly rolled while shaped like dice also makes him dizzy and nauseated. These are separate problems: his discomfort from the dice game should not be confused with the reaction to a fire-engine siren.

06Story

Story spoilers

Yoshihiro Kira's Arrow strikes Mikitaka but fails to pierce him normally, leaving only a small wound. Josuke and Okuyasu later find him in a field and hear his claim that he is an alien.

After Josuke helps him escape the sound of sirens, Mikitaka offers to repay him. Josuke has him transform into dice for a gambling match against Rohan Kishibe. Mikitaka does not initially understand the deception. His discomfort and the fire at Rohan's house turn the scheme into a disaster.

He later helps Josuke and Okuyasu against Toyohiro Kanedaichi's Super Fly. By transforming into a cable, he restrains Kanedaichi and puts himself in danger to help his friends. In the anime's ending, he keeps Kanedaichi company at the transmission tower; that closing scene is an anime addition.
