03Appearance and personality
Okuyasu is simple and rather single-minded, but unfailingly loyal to his friends. He dislikes spicy food and is easily moved. His brother criticizes his lack of confidence and inability to apply his power flexibly. Indecisive, quick-tempered and impulsive, he struggles with the strategic thinking so important in Stand battles and often supplies comic relief in the main group.
Nevertheless, Okuyasu often enjoys remarkable good fortune and is saved from life-threatening crises several times. He has little romantic luck: when Yukako Yamagishi approaches Koichi, he reacts with jealous tears and even cries in Josuke's arms. His exaggerated amazement while sampling food at an Italian restaurant adds to his endearing comic presence. This personality contrasts sharply with The Hand's immense potential, creating a distinctive source of humor.
04Stand abilities
Okuyasu's Stand, The Hand, can erase any matter, including fire. Erasing space in the air also produces an effect similar to instantaneous movement. Although its Range is D, this allows it to pull distant objects or enemies into striking distance. It can completely neutralize the air bombs that Yoshikage Kira creates with Stray Cat, which give Josuke considerable trouble. Its parameters are Destructive Power B, Precision C, Persistence C, Range D, Development Potential C and Speed B.
Erasure is concentrated in The Hand's right palm and requires a sweeping motion. An opponent can stop its arm or evade the swipe, so the ability is not an automatic victory. When Okuyasu removes the space between two points, the surrounding space closes the gap; even he does not know where the erased material goes.
05Story
Story spoilers
Ten years earlier, in 1989 after DIO's death, the flesh bud transformed Okuyasu's father into a monster. Okuyasu and Keicho seek a powerful Stand user who can release their father from his suffering. At first, Okuyasu acts alongside his brother and attacks Koichi when he strays onto their property. Later, he and Josuke notice Koichi acting strangely after visiting Rohan Kishibe and enter Rohan's house to rescue him. Rohan captures Okuyasu with his Stand, nearly causing him to burn himself alive, until Josuke saves him.
Okuyasu, Josuke and Shigekiyo Yangu clash over a lottery prize. After a fight, the three reconcile and split the five-million-yen winnings equally. When Josuke learns that Koichi and Jotaro are struggling in a shoe shop, he and Okuyasu rush to help. Although Josuke exposes Yoshikage Kira's attempt to pose as a bystander, Kira still escapes. During the final battle, Okuyasu is critically injured and remains unconscious even after Josuke heals him. He wakes in the nick of time to save Josuke, explaining that he saw his brother while unconscious and that Keicho gave him courage.
06Reception and significance
Okuyasu's combination of single-mindedness, loyalty and guilelessness makes him a popular source of comedy. The Hand's unusual ability to erase space has prompted differing fan assessments, from calling it overrated to emphasizing its underestimated potential. His characterization also reflects a central principle of Stand battles: raw ability alone does not decide the outcome; the user's intelligence and will matter most.
