03Creation Background
His name is mainly inspired by singer Smokey Robinson. Another explanation suggests that it also incorporates James Brown's name. The slang meaning of Smokey, and the story of Robinson's uncle using the nickname to remind him of his identity, may have influenced the naming.

Battle Tendency
He first meets Joseph after stealing his wallet, and Joseph intervenes to protect him. He witnesses a confrontation over a meal, learns of Speedwagon's reported death, and sees the battle with Straizo at a café. He stays in New York to care for Erina. Later, he brings reinforcements to help the surrounded Joseph. He learns the truth about Lisa Lisa's identity but cannot tell Joseph in time, then witnesses Joseph return alive at his own funeral. He subsequently applies himself to his studies, pursues political science, and becomes the first Black mayor of his hometown in Georgia. An anime-original scene also shows him at Erina's side as she nears death.
Stardust Crusaders
He appears only in anime-original footage, on a magazine cover as mayor of New York City. Suzi Q chooses a dress for a charity gala he is hosting the following day.
