02Creation and Name
His name comes from the American hard rock band REO Speedwagon.
03Skills and support
Before founding his organization, Speedwagon fights with a bowler hat fitted with blades and later carries a sledgehammer. He never masters Hamon, but his courage, street experience and resources still make him useful beside its practitioners. His role develops from a direct companion of Jonathan into the organizer whose Foundation supports the family long after his death.
04History
Story spoilers
Meeting Jonathan Joestar
Speedwagon initially leads a gang on London's Ogre Street. After a clash with Jonathan, he is moved by Jonathan's character and becomes his ally. He witnesses the struggle against Dio throughout its course and eventually sees Jonathan and his wife off on their journey.
Building His Fortune and Foundation
At the beginning of the twentieth century, he travels alone to Texas in the United States. On the verge of death in the desert, he discovers oil and makes his fortune.
Investigating the Pillar Men
He travels to Mexico to investigate the Pillar Men, witnesses Straizo become a vampire, and is seriously wounded before being rescued by German troops. The Foundation subsequently recovers Santana and keeps him contained with ultraviolet light. It also helps Joseph's allies in the battle against Kars.
Death
After the battle with Kars, Speedwagon continues his work as an oil magnate and the Foundation's founder. He dies of heart disease in 1952 at the age of eighty-nine, having remained unmarried throughout his life. In the end, he achieves the wealth and fame that Dio initially craved.
05Influence
Speedwagon is a key supporting character and a vital pillar of support behind the Joestar family. The Foundation's funding, technology, intelligence, and rescue operations help sustain their later struggles, and his influence continues through Stone Ocean.
06The Speedwagon Foundation
The Foundation's mission is to devote his personal fortune to medicine and the protection of wild plants and animals. It also has a department that deals with supernatural phenomena. Accounts of its headquarters refer to both Dallas and Washington, and it also has a branch in Tokyo's Meguro ward. Its activities include the discovery of Pillar Men ruins in 1938, support for the Stardust Crusaders in 1989, help in tracking Yoshikage Kira in 1999, funding an investigation in Italy in 2001, and efforts to rescue Jolyne in 2011.
