03Character Profile
Identity and Background
Stroheim initially commands the Mexican base. Severely injured in the conflict with Santana, he is rebuilt as a cyborg and promoted to colonel, then continues to take part in the final struggle against the Pillar Men. After World War II breaks out, he returns to the battlefield and ultimately dies in the Battle of Stalingrad.
Personality
He is arrogant, frequently boasts about German science and technology, and takes pride in his mechanical body. Even when he changes sides in the immediate conflict, his flamboyant confidence remains.
04Abilities
After his reconstruction, Stroheim's cyborg body is equipped with a range of weapons. A machine gun and other equipment concealed in his abdomen provide considerable fire support, giving physical form to his boasts about German science and technology.
His anti-vampire equipment includes an ultraviolet emitter concealed in his mechanical eye and later portable ultraviolet lights developed by the Speedwagon Foundation. These weapons exploit the Pillar Men's weakness to sunlight-like radiation. They cease to be a solution after Kars becomes the Ultimate Life Form and loses that weakness. Stroheim's powers come from machinery rather than a Stand.
05Story
Story spoilers
To investigate the Pillar Men, Stroheim captures Speedwagon and conducts experiments. He also names the awakened Pillar Man Santana. When Santana escapes his control, Stroheim is willing to die taking him down. Before his apparent death, he tells Joseph about the Pillar Men's true aims and gives him the lead pointing toward Rome.
He later returns as a cyborg, having miraculously survived. He guards the Red Stone of Aja, fights Kars, and eventually helps Joseph force Kars into a volcano. Afterward, he never meets Joseph again and ultimately dies in the Battle of Stalingrad.
