03Character Background
Shinobu met Kosaku while they were students. They married after an unplanned pregnancy. Over the years, she became bored and frustrated with their ordinary married life.
04Appearance and Personality
A housewife with a sharp tongue, Shinobu often treats Kosaku coldly, and the couple sleep separately. Beneath her frustration, however, she still wants affection and a closer relationship with her family. Her resentment also strains her relationship with Hayato, making his later efforts to reconnect with her especially important.
She usually wears her hair tied in a low ponytail and appears in everyday blouses and skirts. Her clothing and colors vary between scenes and adaptations.
05History
Story spoilers
After Aya Tsuji's Cinderella gives Kira Kosaku's appearance, Shinobu mistakes the changes in her supposed husband's behavior for a fresh spark in their marriage. Kira's attempts to act like a caring spouse gradually draw her closer to him. His concern for her during the Stray Cat incident briefly unsettles even his own usual detachment.
Shinobu accidentally kills the cat Tama while trying to drive him from the house. When he returns as Stray Cat and attacks her, Kira protects her, further strengthening her feelings for the man she believes is Kosaku.
Hayato ultimately fights to save his mother from Kira without telling her what happened to his real father. During the final repetition of the Bites the Dust morning, he responds to her affection and kisses her goodbye. After Kira's defeat, Shinobu is still waiting for her husband to come home; she does not know that both Kosaku and his impersonator are dead.
06Role in the Story
Shinobu connects an ordinary household to the supernatural conflict in Morioh. The gap between her renewed happiness and the truth known to Hayato and the reader makes the family storyline particularly tragic. Some fans also discuss Shinobu and Kira as a romantic pairing, but her affection develops without knowing his real identity.
