02Appearance
Noboru is a 50-year-old man of slim to medium build and seemingly average height. He has dark hair styled into a pompadour. He wears a checker-patterned jacket, a loose-collared shirt underneath his sweater, pants and slacks.↗
03Personality
Noboru gives off the impression of an earnest well-meaning man, working a normal office job to provide for his family. He's a stern yet caring father and a loving husband as he offers to take care of things for his wife. He cherishes his family deeply and tries his best to protect them from the dangerous curses of the world that threatened the Mochizuki family lineage. However, he has moments where he displays a desperate intensity as he threatens Takeru's teacher and the members of the baseball club over the phone that he'll bash their skulls in if they interfere with the moon viewing tradition.↗
The loss of his father and brother convinces Noboru to believe in incomprehensible blessings, having hope that if he pays respects to the Harvest Moon, his family will live long lives and his wife will even be cured of her recently emerging cervical cancer. Placing his faith in the Harvest Moon and his ancestors' beliefs are what keeps him strong in the face of the devastating reality he lives in.↗

SPOILERS
Background
Noboru was born to the Mochizuki family, a family that suffers from a curse that makes a family member die each generation on the day of the Harvest Moon. While growing up, he experienced the losses firsthand as his father, Sakuzo dies from an allergic reaction at the age of 46 after being stung by a giant hornet.↗
28 years before the events of The Harvest Moon, Noboru's younger brother Mamoru Mochizuki dies at the age of 17 from drowning in a river while trying to save one of the neighbor's kids. Both deaths happened during the evening of September 8th during the Harvest Moon.↗
The Harvest Moon
Noboru is first introduced reading records containing the medical diagnosis results of his wife, Haruko 's tumor marker test. He sternly scolds his youngest son Takeru to stop playing catch inside the house and also stops his eldest daughter, Aki, from going outside. He forbids everyone in the family to leave the house as a safety measure and that they'll spend all day in the house waiting for the moon.↗
As the family is going out to their backyard, Noboru eases Aki's worries about a possible allergy to bees, telling her that there aren't any around and that bees aren't nocturnal. Their party is set up and begins. Later into the evening, Noboru's mother, Mitsu Mochizuki, nearly chokes to death from a goldfish and everyone's none the wiser.↗↗
Noboru eventually awakens and finds his daughter returning home with her fiancé, Aki having broke free of the curse and narrowly evading certain death by the Moon Rabbit 's judgement.↗
