04Story
SPOILERS
Background
Haruko meets Noboru and marries into the Mochizuki family, a family that suffers from a curse that makes a family member die each generation on the day of the Harvest Moon. She has two kids, Aki Mochizuki and Takeru Mochizuki.↗
Long after that, she gets a tumor test check and the results confirm to her and her husband that she has cervical cancer, putting immense stress on both of their hearts.↗
The Harvest Moon
Haruko is first introduced washing dishes in the kitchen near the rest of her family when Noboru suddenly forbids his family from leaving the house for the day. While Aki and Takeru try to voice their disagreement and desire to follow through with their plans for the day, Noboru insists and starts telling a story about the generational curse of their family. Haruko quietly listens to the story and doesn't express any doubt about what Noboru chooses to believe.↗
As the family is going out to their garden, Haruko helps set everything up for the moon viewing. She happily checks in with what her husband's cooking for tonight before making a toast with the rest of her family.↗
While enjoying the Harvest Moon with her family, Haruko's mother-in-law, Mitsu Mochizuki, nearly chokes to death from a goldfish and everyone's none the wiser. Mitsu unintentionally unplugs the lights with a foot, causing Haruko and the others to be focused on the lights and figuring out why they turned off, eventually finding out that the outlet was unplugged.↗↗
Haruko eventually wakes up and finds her daughter returning home with her fiancé, Aki having broke free of the curse and narrowly evading certain death by the Moon Rabbit 's judgement. It's implied that Haruko makes it through the night and recovers from her cervical cancer.↗
