Background
Mitsu meets Sakuzo and marries into the Mochizuki family, a family that suffers from a curse that makes a family member die each generation on the day of the Harvest Moon. She has three kids, Noboru Mochizuki, Mamoru Mochizuki, and Akiko Mochizuki. One fateful day has Mitsu experience the painful losses related to this curse as her husband, Sakuzo dies from an allergic reaction at the age of 46 after being stung by a giant hornet.↗
28 years before the events of The Harvest Moon, one of Mitsu's sons, Mamoru, dies at the age of 17 from drowning in a river while trying to save one of the neighbor's kids. Both deaths happened during the evening of September 8th during the Harvest Moon. At some point, her daughter-in-law, Haruko gives birth to Mitsu's grandkids, Aki Mochizuki and Takeru Mochizuki.↗
The Harvest Moon
Mitsu is first introduced relaxing on a couch near Takeru, unbothered from the chaos as she just watches Noboru scold Takeru for playing catch inside the house and breaking a vase. When Noboru forbids his family and shares about the family, Mitsu stops smiling and intensely listens to the story. She immediately starts crying when Noboru recalls the tragic demises of Sakuzo and Mamoru to her grandkids. The Mochizuki family decides to throw a party in the backyard until the fated day passes.↗
As the family is going out to their garden, Mitsu assists with setting everything up for the moon viewing and asks Noboru to play music for the event. Noboru agrees and brings out the speakers, television, and extension cord with Takeru, who's all too happy to get the chance to watch Paul at the pool. While enjoying the Harvest Moon with her family, a chain reaction of events caused by Aki leads to a goldfish to be flung into Mitsu's mouth, almost choking her to death.↗↗
Mitsu eventually wakes up and finds her granddaughter returning home with her fiancé, Aki having broke free of the curse and narrowly evading certain death by the Moon Rabbit 's judgement.↗
