Kyoka Izumi

Background

Kyoka Izumi was born in 1996, in Hachioji, Tokyo. At birth, she weighed 3.5 kg (7.7 lb). Her father was so excited during the delivery that he jumped up and down, spraining his ankle. When she was three years old, she was a very talkative child, and her father would laugh at anything she said. At age 5, her father passed away after battling cancer. In 2009, Kyoka joined the broadcasting club at 13 years old.↗

Millionaire Village

Kyoka was a fan of Taro's work as a photographer, and also loved Mai Katahira 's work on interior design, having bought her book that was incidentally published by Shumeisha. One day, she decides to go to Rohan's house to greet him and bring him books on crime for his next one-shot. When she knocks at Rohan's door, Rohan doesn't answer, but the door is unlocked so she can enter.↗

Deoxyribonucleic Acid

One day, Kyoka observes Rohan idly playing cee-lo. Rohan rolls the number 1 on all three dice before obtaining a 4-4-4, impressing Kyoka since the odds of rolling two consecutive triples are so low. She calls it a miracle, but Rohan argues that this merely has a one-in-a-thousand chance of happening and that miracles are impossible by definition.↗

The Run

After the realtors visit Rohan's house, Kyoka meets up with him at a café and finds him looking at a De Stäel art book. Kyoka asks if it's the same author who wrote the "Crime" and "Punishment" novels, to which Rohan numbly corrects her that it's a single novel titled Crime and Punishment, and that it was written by author Dostoevsky.↗

Mutsu-kabe Hill

The day has finally come for Rohan to visit Mutsu-kabe Hill. In his house, Kyoka wishes him well on his journey, although he is grumpy since he should have already went there if not for the yokai on his back disrupting his plans. She assumes that it was just his exhaustion and even praises him for his manuscript being better than usual. After finishing his sketch for his fans, Kyoka immediately takes them and leaves in order to make it in time to assist him, much to his chagrin.↗

Hot Summer Martha

In the summer of 2021 on July 7, the entire country is in a state of emergency and people have to stay at home, wear masks whenever they have to go outside and travel is forbidden. Kyoka still works alongside Rohan on his series Pink Dark Boy. Looking at a sketch for the latest antagonist due to appear soon in the series, Hot Summer Martha, Kyoka worries about its design.↗

Rohan au Louvre

At Rohan's request, Izumi has facilitated Rohan's admission into an exclusive art auction. The day of the auction, she reports back to Rohan, amazed that anyone can actually participate and not just rich people. She mentions that she had to reveal his identity to get an admission, Rohan being an admired artist himself and that he'll have to have three autographs ready; this naturally annoys Rohan who doesn't want to distribute autographs.↗

Poaching Seashore

As Rohan flips through his notes regarding people who have disappeared at the Hyogara Rocks, Kyoka runs up to his table, apologizing for being late due to the Obon rush. After Rohan lectures her unbalanced diet when she brings up her toothache, he reiterates the purpose of their meeting, quoting Kyoka's request for a new one-shot manga themed around a horror mystery involving food. Kyoka invites him to go eat at a new Italian restaurant that recently opened.↗

At a Confessional

When Rohan Kishibe is invited by the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice for a cultural exchange program, Kyoka takes on the responsibility of organizing the trip. However, Rohan takes an early flight to Venice without her knowledge. At the airport, Kyoka is worried that Rohan will miss their flight and calls him, but Rohan informs her that he's already arrived and is currently studying the city and its dark history.↗

Kyoka Izumi Will Not Be Silenced

Kyoka goes on a date at a Chinese restaurant with her boyfriend, Kansuke, but remains completely focused on her phone. Kansuke asks her about their plans to see a movie, but Kyoka has completely forgotten and claims she has work. Annoyed, Kansuke pulls out an IC recorder and plays a recording of Kyoka making the exact same excuse the previous week.↗

Personality

Even when thrust directly into the middle of life-or-death supernatural standoffs, such as Rohan's battle against Yabubako-Hoshi or his intense psychological duel with Ken Oyanagi, Kyoka remains entirely clueless, casually dropping by to complain about deadlines or scolding Rohan for being immature towards a child.↗↗↗↗↗
