01Basic information
02Appearance
03Personality
Ikkei Gozan is an abrasive man who Rohan Kishibe bluntly describes as being a "questionable human being" with a completely unlikable personality. Others would describe him as not worth being friends with, which is an assessment Rohan had no arguments about. Gozan knows exactly how shady he looks and leans into it when doing business. He is a cunning manipulator, perfectly willing to bait Rohan with the promise of something "bizarre" just to trick the manga artist into solving a puzzle he couldn't crack himself.↗↗↗
Despite his slimy demeanor, Gozan operates with a surprisingly rigid code of honor. He possesses a fierce "merchant's pride," refusing to touch forgeries or cheat clients out of their money. Nonetheless, he is obsessed with profit and treats business deals like a battle of wits, haggling to raise the price. Even Rohan, who can't stand Gozan personally, admits to respecting his professional integrity, noting that he had trust in Gozan as a merchant.↗↗↗
He is in love with his wife, Chinami. Gozan genuinely views her as his "pride and joy," claiming that her presence brings him the only peace he knows. He believes that what a man seeks in a woman, above all else, is peace. However, he prioritizes his role as a merchant above his role as a husband, leaving his wife alone for long stretches to pursue business deals and amass expensive collections. This workaholic nature dooms him, as his long absences destroy the domestic peace he claimed to cherish, twisting his wife's loneliness into madness. While he is inside the Box of Happiness, Heaven's Door reveals that Gozan wasn't entirely blind to his wife's issues.↗↗↗
04Story

Background
Ikkei Gozan established himself as a skilled antique dealer with a reputation for being difficult but professionally honest. He eventually met and married Chinami. Believing he needed to work hard to support their lifestyle, he focused heavily on his business, traveling frequently to acquire high-value items like antique vases.↗↗↗
However, his constant absences began to destroy his marriage. He frequently left Chinami alone in the house she had purchased for them, even missing their wedding anniversary to visit his hospitalized mother for a week.↗↗
The manga artist Rohan Kishibe purchased artwork from Gozan several times. Since Gozan would often try to trap Rohan during their business deals, Rohan used Heaven's Door to write "Ikkei Gozan must always answer Rohan Kishibe's questions" on him. At some point, he learned from a friend who had connections to Minoru Kaigamori about Rohan's encounter with a yokai.↗↗↗
He later became aware of the Box of Happiness, a mysterious object he believed he could use to his advantage. Unaware of its true nature as a trap passed down through his wife's family, he devised a plan to have Rohan repair the broken box so he could then claim the "happiness" inside for himself, knowing that Rohan had experience with the supernatural.↗↗
Box of Happiness
Gozan invites Rohan to his home under the pretense of showing him something "bizarre." After introducing Rohan to his wife, he presents the shattered fragments of the Box of Happiness, which are wrapped in a furoshiki to look like a solid cube. He claims that he cannot "see" the box properly and needs Rohan to examine it. To force Rohan's hand, Gozan abruptly leaves the house, heading to the nearby Café Deux Magots and claiming it is too dangerous for him to be present when the box is opened.↗↗
Once Rohan repairs the box under the influence of a hypnotic trance and a sedative laced in the tea Chinami gives him, Chinami places Gozan inside the now-completed Box of Happiness. When Rohan awakes, Gozan is already sealed within. Rohan uses Heaven's Door to communicate with him through the box. Gozan reveals that he is trapped in an eternal dream where he sees nothing but his wife smiling at him.↗↗
