02Appearance
She is a young, light-skinned woman of a petite build. She has long, dark hair with a parted fringe, with the back styled into buns. In the aftermath of her husband 's abuse, she wears a long, sleeveless V-neck dress with a dotted pattern. While being operated on by Gyro Zeppeli and his mother, she wears a shorter, short-sleeved dress with a flowered pattern.↗↗↗
During her wedding, she wore a typical, lightly colored wedding gown and veil adorned with a wreath of flowers. In a flashback, she is shown with her hair tied into a braid and wearing an outfit consisting of a dark, collared jacket over a lightly colored skirt wearing a wide brimmed hat.↗↗
03Personality
The woman displays a level of anxiousness and denial that leaves her vulnerable to her husband 's physical and psychological abuse. She is led to believe that her husband's beatings are a fault of her own, and that it is her duty as his wife to behave well, seeing her husband's abuse as retribution for her own failings. Outside of their relationship, her husband describes her as a "boring lay." After Wekapipo discovers her near-blindness due to her husband's abuse, she downplays the severity of her injury by claiming that it is temporary and would heal soon.↗↗
After regaining consciousness from her operation by Gyro Zeppeli, she expresses gratitude towards him for mending her injuries despite his failure to cure her blindness and further consoles him by claiming that she hadn't been able to see for some time regardless.↗↗

Background
During her childhood, the girl had lived a secluded life in her hometown, only having heard of the ocean. At some point during her teenage years, her older brother, the royal guardsman Wekapipo, pushed for her to marry into the family of a friend and colleague of his from the royal guard, due to his family's wealth and status. When she turned seventeen, she saw the ocean for the first time on her wedding day.↗
This marriage would quickly prove to have been a failure, as her husband would regularly beat her, which she would blame herself for. Six months after the wedding, Wekapipo visited her residence and discovered her sobbing profusely, her face bloody and bruised. After unknowingly knocking over a vase, Wekapipo discovered that his sister was rendered almost completely blind in her left eye due to a wounded portion of her optic nerve.↗
However, the girl's husband had different plans regarding his marriage, violently beating Wekapipo after he requested the nobleman divorce his sister and claiming that Wekapipo had brought shame to his name with this annulment. The nobleman declares that he would take Wekapipo's life in a duel, to which Wekapipo assures his sister that everything will be fine.↗↗
Following her brother's exile, the woman fell down a flight of stairs while working in 1889, breaking her left shoulder and bruising her head. Although it was considered taboo for anyone to take care of her, the Zeppeli family took her in as a patient. After analysing her wounds from the accident, Gyro Zeppeli observes her broken nerve ending and, in spite of his mother 's warnings, decides to attempt a surgery to sew her optic nerve back together with the Spin of the Steel Balls.↗↗↗↗
Steel Ball Run
A year after his sister's accident, Wekapipo believes her to be dead and enters the service of United States president Funny Valentine, being offered full citizenship and a high government position. Although Valentine offhandedly mentions that this can apply to his family if he wishes, Wekapipo reaffirms his belief that his sister was dead.↗↗↗↗
