03Personality

Rina is described as a loving and faithful wife, as seen when she placed her utmost trust in her husband, Johnny, as she was suffering from the Rock Disease. Her maternal love is evident when she continued to care for her son, George III, as a single mother after Johnny's sacrifice to cure him of the same disease, and even years after with her grandson, Joseph Joestar.↗↗

04Story

SPOILERS

Rina Higashikata was born in 1874 in Morioh, Japan, as the daughter of Norisuke Higashikata I. She had two sisters and a brother, Norisuke II. By 1891, Rina was present in America alongside her father after he competed in the Steel Ball Run race.↗↗

Rina would meet the former Steel Ball Run racer Johnny Joestar as she and Norisuke I were boarded on a passenger ship docked in New York, which was bound to cross the Atlantic Ocean. Johnny and Rina got to know each other on the ship and instantly fell in love. The two married in the following year, later living together on a horse ranch.↗

During this time, she gave birth to two children: her son George Joestar III in 1898, and a daughter born at an unspecified date. Johnny occasionally traveled to Japan to teach their army horsemanship and help import foreign fruits. Meanwhile, Rina took on additional work in America to support their family, with her husband providing moral support.↗↗

However, nine years into their marriage, she came down with an incurable illness that caused her to intermittently lose her memories and eventually turned her skin stiff and folded like origami. Johnny decided it was best to bring her to Japan to spend the last few days of her life in her hometown of Morioh.↗

Overwhelmed by grief, he traveled back to New York in 1901 to re-obtain the Saint's Corpse as a way of curing his wife's illness. With the Corpse successfully stolen, he brought her to a meditation pine tree where he had hidden it underneath on the evening of November 11, 1901. Despite Rina being cured, unbeknownst to them, the principle of equivalent exchange caused the disease to be passed to their son George III, who was sleeping in a nearby carriage.↗

The following morning, Rina and several American government officials found a crying George III as well as Johnny's body with his head crushed by a boulder at a nearby street. Afterwards, the briefcase with the Corpse was retrieved and Rina was charged with her husband's murder, but was subsequently released due to lack of evidence.↗

In 1924, Rina's grandson was born to her son George III and his wife Elizabeth. She named him " Joseph," nicknamed "Fumi." She lived with him in S City and presumably played a role in his upbringing.↗↗
