Background

Mauka lives with his older brother, Charming Man, on a farm on Hawaii Island. One day, the brothers have an argument near the outskirts of their farm, which someone reports to the police.↗↗

The following day, Mauka and Charming Man race bicycles through a valley at Hualālai. Charming Man rides ahead and taunts Mauka for being slow. Mauka complains about his brother's rough behavior and asks why he has so much energy, joking that he might be training for an Ironman Triathlon. Charming Man responds that once they reach the beach, they will also compete in a two-mile swimming race.↗↗

As they continue across the volcanic terrain, the brothers encounter fallen trees in their path. Charming Man clears one of them and warns Mauka about another. Shortly afterward, he notices that Mauka's bicycle is continuing forward without its rider. Charming Man stops and calls for him before searching the surrounding area.↗↗

Charming Man eventually hears Mauka calling to him from a lava tube. Although Hualālai normally has no flowing rivers, water is running through the tube. Charming Man finds Mauka inside and attempts to reach him, but Mauka is carried farther into the passage and disappears. Charming Man continues searching the surrounding lava tubes, but Mauka does not return.↗↗

Police and rescue personnel respond to the area, but they are skeptical of Charming Man's account because water is not known to flow through Hualālai. Charming Man insists that water was flowing through the lava tube when Mauka disappeared and repeatedly demands that they search it. The officers instead question him about Mauka being underage, the brothers' argument from the previous day, and Charming Man's prior arrest after a confrontation with a police officer during a traffic stop.↗↗

Charming Man later sees Rohan Kishibe investigating the same area of Hualālai and using money to locate Lava Rocks originating from its lava tubes. Because Mauka disappeared in the same region, Charming Man begins investigating the Lava Rocks and their possible connection to his brother.↗↗

Act One

After joining Team Jodio, Charming Man explains Mauka's disappearance to Meryl Mei Qi. He reveals that the section of Hualālai where Mauka vanished belongs to HOWLER Company and that police officers and mountain rangers prevent him from entering the area to search. Charming Man has also become a suspect in Mauka's disappearance. Despite being unable to find him, he believes Mauka is still alive and wants access to HOWLER's land so that he can determine what happened to him.↗↗

Later, while traveling with Team Jodio, Charming Man discusses the unusual physical traits shared by his family and the people of his village. He remembers Mauka disappearing into the lava tube and regrets inviting his brother to ride bicycles off-road.↗↗

Act Two

Nine months later, Jodio Joestar tells Doctor Roberts that Charming Man lives on Hawaii Island and that his younger brother disappeared inside the island's lava tubes. Jodio instructs Roberts to contact Charming Man through analog means and inform him about the enemy pursuing the group. After Roberts contacts Charming Man, Charming Man begins investigating the enemy on Hawaii Island.↗↗↗
