Swapping Babies (1972)

On June 5, 1972, in a hospital in the Deep South of the United States, she gave birth to a baby boy. However, the infant tragically passed away in her arms before the sun came up the next morning. Driven to despair and refusing to accept her child's death, she slipped out of her bed like a ghost. She sneaked into another room in the maternity ward and, before the doctors or nurses could notice, swapped her dead baby with a living baby born on the exact same day.↗

The baby she stole was one of a pair of fraternal twins belonging to a wealthy family. She successfully escaped detection, naming the stolen child Wes Bluemarine and raising him as her own son. Around this time, she was married to an African-American man.↗↗

Confession (1988)

Sixteen years later, in 1988, Mrs. Bluemarine contracted a severe illness that she believed would kill her. Wracked with guilt and fearing she would die without ever telling Wes the truth about his origins, she went to a Catholic church to confess her sins. She entered the confessional booth, unaware that the person sitting on the other side was not the priest, but rather a 15-year-old Enrico Pucci, who was simply cleaning the booth.↗↗

Two weeks after her confession, Enrico learns that his younger sister, Perla Pucci, had recently started dating their brother, "Wes Bluemarine." Horrified that his sister was unknowingly dating her own biological brother, but bound by the vow of the confessional, Enrico hired a private investigator to force Wes and Perla to break up without revealing their blood relation. However, the investigator's background check revealed that Mrs. Bluemarine had been married to a Black man in 1972.↗↗
