02Appearance

Palawanicus No.36 appears as a Dorcus titanus, with a segmented body, six legs and a set of mandibles which Josuke observes to be bigger than that of Palawanicus No.28. It is 112 mm (4.4 in) long, with Norisuke Higashikata IV noting it to almost be a world record.↗↗↗

A star-shaped sticker is applied to the beetle's shell prior to the start of the first match in order to differentiate it from its opponent. During its battle with the Jobin's Rosenbergi, its right mandible, wing as well as its middle and front left legs are all broken off.↗↗

03Personality

Like the rest of Jobin Higashikata 's collection, P-36 is an elite athlete, intelligent, aggressive and assertive in mating. Its intelligence spans it a 45-second attention span before it forgets. To draw out its complete potential in its fight with Palawanicus No.28, Josuke uses female pheromones to stimulate it. Palawanicus No.36 also has a great deal of endurance, able to repeatedly lose limbs and keep fighting.↗↗↗↗↗

Joshu Higashikata notes No.36 has a strong fighting spirit, still fighting even when on the edge of the ring. Because of its fighting spirit, it has a feel for winning, which gives it motivation to get stronger and become a better warrior.↗↗↗

04Abilities

Strength

Palawanicus No.36, like the rest of Jobin's collection, is an athlete specially trained to be an elite. To keep up with this training and survive Winter, it can only eat protein. As a result, it can live up to five years, far beyond beetles living in nature. As such, the Palawanicus has far greater physical capabilities relative to its size, able to lift one of its own species of equal size using only one mandible. Its endurance also allows it to lose limbs in battles which can be glued back later.↗↗↗↗↗↗

Intelligence

Although smarter than many species, the Palawanicus is limited by its intelligence, as it only has a short, 45-second attention span before forgetting. As such, it ceases to fight after enough time is spent.↗↗

05Story

SPOILERS

Background

While traveling in Southeast Asia on a business trip for the Higashikata Fruit Parlor, Jobin bought the Palawanicus beetle for ¥110,000 while scouting fruit fields in Vietnam and the Philippines. Jobin notes that the Palawanicus would sell for ¥300,000 in Japan.↗↗↗

JoJolion

After Jobin flies back to Japan, he visits the Fruit Parlor. There, Josuke and Norisuke would meet Jobin by coincidence. As Norisuke and Jobin catch up, Jobin explains his trip to Norisuke before displaying the Palawanicus to him and its story. Spotting Josuke, Jobin is introduced to Josuke by Norisuke. As a gift of invitation into the family, Jobin gifts Josuke the Palawanicus beetle.↗↗

Realizing Jobin's connection to the Locacaca, Josuke decides to confront Jobin in his beetle collection room. Jobin gives Josuke advice on what to feed his Palawanicus. With Tsurugi 's advice, Josuke challenges Jobin into a bet by bragging about his own beetle being stronger than Jobin's Palawanicus No.28. Provoked by Josuke's words, Jobin tests his theory by putting his beetle in a cage with a hornet, which No.28 kills with ease.↗↗

Josuke glues its mandible back as the two prepare for a second round, with Jobin betting his Lamborghini in return for licking Josuke's eye if he loses. In the ring, No.36 faces Jobin's Rosenbergi beetle. Despite the size difference at first helping No.36 almost push Rosenbergi off the platform, the Rosenbergi is able to overpower No.36 and flip it over. In No.36's helpless state, the Rosenbergi breaks off one of its hind legs and pushes it onto the corner of the platform.↗↗

During the No.36's third round, the Rosenbergi intimidates No.36 into running. However, the Rosenbergi catches up and breaks not only one of No.36's mandibles, but also its wing. The two clash in one last battle of power, where the Rosenbergi dives under No.36 and flips it over. Flipped, the Palawanicus in bitten in the neck and throat. However, the Rosenbergi loses control as it convulses due to the wax melted by Jobin's Speed King. As the Palawanicus gets up, the Rosenbergi oozes with wax.↗↗
