02Appearance
Gray Fly appears as a small old man with a gray horseshoe hairstyle, a thick mustache, and an imprint of a stag beetle on his abnormally long tongue. In the anime, this imprint is shown appearing shortly after his Stand 's destruction.↗
While attempting to pass for a normal person, Gray Fly wears a plain shirt, a sweater vest and dark pants.↗
03Personality
Although he appears to be an unsuspecting old man, Gray Fly is one of DIO's many sadistic mercenaries. According to Muhammad Avdol, he is a thief responsible for numerous fatal crashes and plans all his crimes to look like accidents. Noriaki Kakyoin calls Gray Fly and his Stand "repulsive". He murders several passengers on the plane to Egypt and paints "massacre" on a wall with their blood.↗↗↗↗↗↗↗
Like most of DIO's minions, Gray Fly is confident in his Stand Tower of Gray, especially its speed.↗↗
04Abilities
Stand
Gray Fly's Stand is Tower of Gray, which takes the form of a giant and agile stag beetle. It is quick enough to dodge Star Platinum 's punches, and capable of easily tearing flesh apart. Gray Fly typically physically attacks his victims with his Stand, ripping their tongues out and then causing accidents in vehicles.↗↗
05Story
SPOILERS
Background
Gray Fly used his Stand to commit many mass murders which he disguised as accidents, including plane crashes, train derailments, and fires. In 1987, he crashed a plane in England, causing 300 casualties. He gained enough notoriety among Stand users for Muhammad Avdol to hear rumors about him, as well as his insect Stand liking to rip out tongues and eat them. As one of the tarot card Stand users, Enya the Hag sent Gray Fly to kill the Joestar Group.↗↗↗
Stardust Crusaders (1988)
Gray Fly boards a plane en route to Cairo via Bangkok as one of the passengers, where he lets his Stand attack Jotaro. Tower of Gray showcases its speed with its Tower Needle attack almost ripping off Jotaro's tongue, but Star Platinum stops it. In order to make his opponents understand his true powers and his intentions, he cuts off the tongues of the other passengers with Tower of Gray, then proceeds to write the word "Massacre!" on the wall with their blood.↗
Gray Fly then stands up, leaves his seat, and tries to reach the bathroom, posing as a harmless old man. He deliberately touches the blood written on the wall and starts screaming at it, attempting to put the other passengers in an uproar so the Joestar Group would have difficulty fighting him. However, Kakyoin swiftly silences the old man by delivering a light chop to the back of his neck.↗↗
Before dying, Gray Fly manages to kill the plane's pilots in a last attempt to lead the Joestar Group to the same fate. While bleeding out, he manages to stand up and taunt them, saying that they will never get to DIO even if they are lucky enough to survive the crash. He also warns them that DIO's followers will continue coming after them.↗↗
