02Appearance

Date is a tall, athletic, and handsome teenage boy. He has short, dark hair, thick eyebrows, and sharp, distinguished facial features. Koichi notes that he looks as handsome as James Dean.↗

During normal school hours, he wears the school's standard dark gakuran. When participating in his club activities, he wears a traditional kendo uniform consisting of a light-colored keikogi and dark hakama, along with bōgu armor. He also wears a necklace with a small, embroidered protective amulet (omamori) attached, which is a memento from his late grandfather.↗

03Personality

Date is idolized by his peers as a flawless, multi-talented prodigy. With his wealth, good looks, and endless skills, Koichi goes so far as to describe him as being "like Superman." He maintains a polite, charismatic, and reliable facade that earns him the trust of both the student body and the school faculty. According to Koichi, he is incredibly charming, possessing a sense of humor on par with that of the famous comedian and filmmaker Woody Allen.↗↗

However, Date's polished reputation hides a more insecure and self-serving side. He egotistically considers himself perfect. Date rudely mocks B.T. for being in the drama club, insulting his stage makeup and joking that he must be playing the role of a short kid who was scratched by a cat. He is shown to abuse his authority to humiliate others; B.T. recalls an incident where Date hit him on the head with a bamboo sword for being just thirty seconds late, intentionally lecturing him right in front of the principal's office to make a public spectacle out of it. Furthermore, Date acts overly familiar and intimately whispers with Aiko Hyodo, which frustrates B.T., who has a crush on her.↗↗

Date displays a genuine attachment to his late grandfather's memento. When Ninomori deliberately strikes the amulet with a wooden sword to provoke him, Date loses his composure, flying into a blind rage. However, this attachment also makes him superstitious and easily manipulated; his calm facade shatters when B.T. pretends to use the amulet to summon a spirit that exposes Date's guilt.↗↗

04Abilities

According to Koichi, Date is a multi-talented prodigy who excels at everything he attempts, making him seem virtually perfect.↗

Athletic Skills: Date is a highly capable kendo practitioner, serving as the captain of his school's club. He demonstrates quick reflexes and immense physical power during his bouts. His strikes are heavy enough to accidentally cause a mild, delayed concussion even through Ninomori's protective armor. He is also highly athletic in general, shown effortlessly performing a handstand on a high bar.↗↗

Intelligence: Date is an honor student with excellent academic grades. His intelligence and charisma easily earns him the position of student council president.↗↗

Musical Talent: He is gifted in music and can play the piano. Koichi notes that his musical talent is on par with that of legendary English musician Paul McCartney.↗↗

05Story

SPOILERS

Background

Date is the son of a wealthy temple priest. He becomes the student council president and leader of the kendo club at his school. At some point, he hits B.T. on the head with a bamboo sword due to B.T. being 30 seconds late to school. He then lectures B.T. in front of the principal's office.↗

On another day, Date passes by B.T. and Koichi Mugikari in the school's gymnasium. He makes fun of B.T. for being in the drama club and mocks his makeup, saying he looks like a short kid who got scratched by a cat. B.T. also notices Date flirting with Aiko Hyodo, whom B.T. has a crush on, and decides to make him pay. During a kendo practice session in the school's dojo, Date spars against Ninomori. Date strikes Ninomori exceptionally hard on the ear.↗↗

The Prank Corpse Incident

Following B.T.'s plan, Ninomori approaches Date outside the dojo and challenges him to a second bout without armor. To deliberately provoke him, Ninomori uses his wooden sword to cut the string of the necklace holding the protective amulet Date was wearing. Enraged that Ninomori disrespected his late grandfather's memento, Date violently swings his sword at Ninomori. However, Ninomori slips, hitting his head on a rock and collapsing to the ground.↗

However, because Ninomori had suffered a real concussion during the earlier kendo match, he had genuinely lost consciousness while lying on the ground, causing his pupils to dilate. When Date returns, he does not bring the money. Instead, he brings a large crowd of students and teachers. Date points at B.T. and Koichi, accusing them of murdering Ninomori by tripping him. B.T. then picks up Date's dropped amulet.↗

Terrified by the "curse", Date panics. However, he still tries to deny that it was his fault, claiming that it was just an accident. As an ambulance arrives, Ninomori wakes up, and the doctor later confirms that Ninomori had only suffered a mild concussion and temporarily passed out. Later in school, Aiko rebukes Date for trying to frame the two freshmen and runs away from him, as Date chases after her.↗↗
