02Appearance
Daiya is portrayed as an outwardly "cute" teenage girl. She has dark hair which was originally chin length but later shown to have grown down past her shoulders, with eyebrow-level bangs, and large, dark eyes. Her outfits consist of a variety of short dress-tops with a fuzzy texture. Her first seen one has a puffy heart-shaped collar while the second is more dress shirt-like. Later in the manga she switches to a top with no sleeves or collar. With all of these she wears a segmented sash, vertically striped socks, and a hood, cap, or bonnet with faux bear ears.↗
She has a notably curvaceous figure; Kaato explains it is common for female members of the Higashikata family to be well-endowed up until age 20.↗↗
03Personality
At 16 years of age, Daiya is the youngest member of the Higashikata family 's fifth generation. She appears to be fixated on an image of outward cuteness, seen through interactions like her childlike possessiveness of and offense at Josuke Higashikata 's betrayal, and the playful manner of her speech. This is also reflected in her Stand, which has a toy-like appearance and abilities that sanction its use in what are essentially childish games.↗↗
Daiya is also quite jovial and enthusiastic, tending to eagerly go along with other members of her family, which gives an impression of lively innocence. For instance, she becomes briefly interested in learning how to ride a motorcycle when Josuke mentions it; and she also is the only member of the family who is open to the idea of meeting her mother, Kaato Higashikata, seemingly ignorant of her crime and being neutral unlike Joshu. Noticeably, Daiya is also not alarmed at Kaato's unexplained presence in the house prior to learning her identity. She is the only one who supports Joshu's idea of turning the devastated family orchard into a mushroom hunting ground.↗↗↗↗
Despite these inclinations, Daiya has a feisty streak when it comes to her ego. Although she is severely sight-impaired - barely able to see light or read a paper right under her nose - she adamantly performs household tasks herself, even if to her father's apparent dismay, and has managed to memorize an incredible spatial awareness of her home and the items inside of it to accomplish this. She even confidently rides a bike out into town.↗↗
04Abilities
Stand
Daiya's Stand, California King Bed, allows her to capture a person's memories after engaging and beating them in a unique game. There are specific rules in said "game" and if the victim/target breaks these rules one memory of theirs is taken. Once the memory is taken, the victim will not remember anything related to that specific memory.↗
Memories that are taken are placed into an item resembling a chess piece with a pearl in the middle of it and a picture that has something to do with the memory (e.g. a memory about riding a bike would have a picture of a bike). It is impossible to physically take the memories once they are inside and if the chess pieces are destroyed, the memories in them are lost forever. The only way to regain stolen memories is for Daiya to step into the victim's shadow.↗
Spatial Awareness
Daiya is nearly blind, but can read braille. She also possesses an uncanny awareness of her surroundings when she's in her house, which compensates for her handicap. By her own admission, Daiya knows a lot about the layout of the Higashikata Residence and where most, if not all objects are kept. Daiya even knows where each light is situated and how the sunlight enters the house, making it almost impossible to step on her shadow as she knows how to move and orientate herself to avoid her targets being freed from her ability.↗↗↗↗
05Story
SPOILERS
Background
Daiya was born the second daughter and youngest child of Norisuke Higashikata IV and Kaato Higashikata. Around the time she was only a year old, Kaato was imprisoned for the earlier murder of a child. Due to her young age, Daiya had no memories of her mother and implicitly grew up with no knowledge of her.↗
When Daiya was two, she fell into the area where the Wall Eyes would appear in 2011. Her vision continuously worsened from that instant, but she acquired her Stand California King Bed seemingly in exchange.↗↗
Meeting Josuke Higashikata
Daiya is first seen when Josuke is introduced to the family, she questions him if he likes the Misty Mellotron, an electronic instrument. When her father asks Josuke to look after her. She refuses to be treated in a special way for being blind, saying that he should act natural. She quickly infatuates herself with Josuke. Josuke slips up when he consciously puts a teacup in front of her, thinking she might pour water on the table.↗
It's a Summer Vacation Everyday
When Jobin returns, Daiya is given a coconut ashtray, which amuses her despite the fact that she doesn't smoke, nor does anyone in her family.↗
Hato Brought Her Boyfriend Home
Hato eventually introduces her new boyfriend Tamaki Damo to her whole family, including Daiya who is excited at the prospect of meeting her sister's first boyfriend. Since she is blind, Daiya asks Josuke if Damo is handsome but Josuke prefers not to comment. When a fax for Josuke arrives, Daiya takes it and barely reads the name "Josefumi Kujo" on it. Daiya runs to Josuke in the foyer to hand it the paper.↗
Dawn of the Higashikata Family
One morning at the Higashikata's, Norisuke begins his morning breathing exercises while Daiya leaves a DVD box on the couch. Daiya mentions the DVD, which is from the exercise guru Miki Ryousuke, and Norisuke goes to pick it up, Kaato finally giving it to him. It takes a while for everyone to properly register that a strange woman is sitting on their couch.↗
Ozon Baby's Pressure
Daiya is subsequently seen having breakfast at her family's home, during which she eats a bunch of Joshu's fish sausages.↗
The Wonder of You
On the day of the harvest, a string of events results in the Higashikata Family catching Jobin and Mitsuba trying to drown Paisley Park. Daiya is forced to see her family tearing itself apart as Norisuke exposes Jobin's murder of Ojiro Sasame. Jobin induces a heat stroke in Norisuke with Speed King. Jobin then tells her to help move the unconscious Norisuke to the second floor. Eventually, the family also realizes that Jobin is also a victim of Akefu's Stand.↗
Later, Wonder of U 's user, Toru, infiltrates the Higashikata residence to retrieve the Locacaca plant from Yasuho. Daiya is caught along the Stand's calamity ability as the plane flying towards Yasuho lands inside the house. Investigating the commotion, she and Hato go to the garage only to find their mother Kaato and their brother Jobin 's corpse. They watch as Kaato utilizes her Stand Space Trucking to pin down Toru and use his body to perform an equivalent exchange with Tsurugi.↗
Aftermath
Days later, the Higashikata family go to the Higashikata Fruit Parlor to order a cake as a celebration of Norisuke 's discharge the next day, as well as a new beginning in the Higashikata family history. While choosing a cake made by the Higashikata parlor, everyone breaks down into tears, including Daiya, Hato, Tsurugi, Joshu, and Mitsuba. Tsurugi then insists Josuke to choose a cake. With the family reunited once again, Yasuho Hirose sheds a tear before exiting the room.↗
