02Appearance

The detective is an obese middle-aged man with dark, curly hair, a thick, prominent mustache, thick eyebrows, and a double chin. He dresses in typical detective attire but with a slightly sleazy aesthetic, wearing a collared shirt, a tie, and a herringbone patterned suit jacket. He also occasionally wears a small fedora and a light-colored trench coat on top of his suit. He is frequently seen smoking a cigar.↗

03Personality

The detective is corrupt, ruthless, and desperate to preserve his own reputation and freedom. He completely abandons his duty as an officer of the law to work with a violent syndicate.↗

He is highly manipulative and devoid of empathy. When he discovers the injured body of the man blackmailing him, he rejoices, seeing an opportunity to destroy his blackmail evidence. He frames the 15-year-old girl Fuyuko Nakagawa for murder to protect his own secrets. He resorts to extreme behavior when backed into a corner. For instance, he is perfectly willing to hold children at gunpoint and shoot them to get what he wants, threatening to shoot the 12-year-old B.T. if B.T. wouldn't give him the blackmail evidence.↗

He is also highly arrogant, looking down on B.T. as "trash". However, this arrogance makes him underestimate B.T.'s cunning, leading directly to his downfall.↗↗

Background

As a police detective, he secretly colluded with a violent crime syndicate, giving money in exchange for favors. However, a freelance reporter managed to photograph him in the act of bribing a gang member. The reporter used these photographs to blackmail the detective.↗↗

One day, Fuyuko Nakagawa visits the reporter's house intending to kill him, having also been blackmailed by him. She stabs the reporter in the back with a pair of scissors, but faints before she can finish him off. The corrupt detective is the first to arrive at the crime scene. The blackmailer begs him for a doctor, but the officer kills him before the doctor can arrive, stepping on the scissors to push them further into his wound.↗

The Overturned Guilt Incident

Later, the detective interrogates Fuyuko and pressures her until she admits that she killed the man. B.T. and his friend Koichi Mugikari break into the crime scene around 4 AM to prove Fuyuko's innocence. Koichi then locates the blackmail photos hidden inside a plastic bag concealed within paint on a painting.↗↗

In the morning, B.T. calls the detective over. Although the detective denies B.T.'s claims of Fuyuko being innocent, he drops his facade when B.T. confronts him with the photos and exposes his corruption. The detective pulls out his revolver and threatens B.T. to hand over the photos. B.T. tosses a simple rubber band into the air as a distraction. He then seemingly vanishes into thin air right before the detective's eyes. B.T.↗

Koichi's uncle publishes the recovered photographs and confession in the newspaper. The article fully exposes the detective's ties to the crime syndicate and reveals that several other corrupt officers were also connected to it. As a result, Fuyuko is cleared of all charges.↗↗
