Bruno Bucciarati 's mother was a very loving woman. Her son loved talking to her and enjoyed the bedtime stories she would read to him. She and her husband decided to divorce on their 10th year of marriage when Bruno was 7, and she was going to leave the small town to live in the city. She tried to sway Bruno to live with her, but he refused and chose to accompany his father, as he knew his father was the saddest about the separation. Bruno's mother was proud of her son's kindness and although she was initially sad about his decision, eventually set it aside. She hoped that his kindness to overly sympathize with others' sorrows wouldn't cause misfortune to him.
